About This Site
Senior Mobility Aids Hub is written from a real one-story house, by a retired librarian with creaky knees and a husband two years out from a knee replacement. We test the gear older adults actually use to stay steady and independent at home: rollator walkers, folding canes, shower chairs, bed assist rails and reachers. Every review says what worked, what did not, and who each aid is really for.

Mobility Aid Safety
This site shares personal experience, not medical advice. If you have fallen recently, are recovering from surgery, or are unsure which aid you need, ask your doctor or a physical therapist to fit you before you buy. The wrong height or the wrong type of aid can make a fall more likely, not less.
Set every walker and cane to the right height: with your arm hanging relaxed, the handle should sit at the crease of your wrist. Always lock a rollator's brakes before you sit on its seat or stand up from it, and never use a rollator seat as a wheelchair while someone pushes you. Check the rubber tips, wheels and brake cables regularly and replace worn parts.
In the bathroom, a shower chair is not a grab bar. Make sure all four legs sit flat on a non-slip surface and never exceed the posted weight limit. Bed assist rails can create gaps between the rail and the mattress, which carry a real entrapment risk; follow the maker's fitting instructions exactly and do not use a bed rail for anyone confused, very frail, or prone to wandering at night without advice from their care team. Reachers are for light objects only; do not use one to pull down heavy items from a high shelf.
